Back To Prabhupada, Issue 29, Autumn 2010
he IRM's position has been so clearly established on the basis of evidence and reason, that even ISKCON's Governing Body Commission members and GBC-elected guru hoaxers are forced to admit that our position does not have any holes in it, but rather is completely logical:
"And when we see The Final Order and the arguments of the ritviks, this is sort of their technology, setting up a step-by-step logical process".
(HH Sivarama Swami, Governing Body Commissioner and GBC-elected guru, Podcast, July 18th, 2008)
"And you'll find in that Back To Prabhupada magazine it all appears very logical."
(HH Bhakti Vikash Swami, GBC-elected guru, Lecture, February 9th, 2009)
It follows that if our position is completely logical, then the GBC's position, which is contrary to our position, must be illogical. To rationalise such a situation, the GBC takes shelter in the fact that the Absolute Truth cannot be arrived at via logic alone. This is true. But as Srila Prabhupada explains below, this does not mean the philosophy of Krishna consciousness is illogical. Rather it is actually completely logical, and must be accepted unless superior logic can be presented, and logic must be used in defeating any opposing philosophies.
"Don't accuse that we are illogical, don't accuse. We are logical, completely logical. [...] I have dedicated my life for this purpose. I am touring all over the world giving this knowledge. It is sound logic. If you don't accept, you must give better logic, what you know. Don't think we are going under sentiment. Don't think like that. We have got sound logic."
(Srila Prabhupada Conversation, 2/9/1973)
"The Visnudutas, like all genuine servants of God, understood everything according to logic and reason. The instructions of Krsna are not meaningless dogma. Religion often gives rise to dogmatism, but the author of Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja, urges us to try to understand Lord Caitanya and the philosophy of Krsna consciousness according to logic. In other words, do not follow blindly, on the basis of sentiment alone. One who fails to apply logic can easily be misled by unscrupulous persons."
(A Second Chance, Chapter 14)
"Vicara means you just try to understand the gift of Lord Caitanya by logic, vicara. Don't follow blindly. Following blindly something, that is not good. That will not stay. But one should take everything with logic. But the servants of God, they put everything in logic. [...] So one should be intelligent to understand the philosophy of Krishna or philosophy of Lord Caitanya with logic and argument."
(Srila Prabhupada Lecture, 6/1/1971)
"It is sometimes misunderstood that if one has to associate with persons engaged in devotional service, he will not be able to solve the economic problem. To answer this argument, it is described here that one has to associate with liberated persons not directly, physically, but by understanding, through philosophy and logic, the problems of life."
(Srimad-Bhagavatam, 3.31.48, purport)
"The Lord imparted instructions with full senses, and Arjuna received them with full senses, and thus there was a perfect exchange of sensible and logical understanding between the master and the disciple. Spiritual understanding is nothing like an electrical charge from the master to the disciple [...] Everything is full of sense and logic, [...] one should receive the teaching of Lord Caitanya with intellect and full senses so that one can logically understand the great mission."
(Srimad-Bhagavatam, 2.3.20, purport)
"One should understand the principles of religion with philosophy and logic. We are claiming college students, university students, because we are presenting religion on the basis of philosophy and logic. We are not blindly following."
(Srila Prabhupada Lecture, 20/7/1968)
"Similarly, those who are Krishna conscious should also kill - not by weapons but by logic, by reasoning, and by education. [...] They should be killed by argument, reasoning, and scientific spiritual understanding."
(Teachings of Queen Kunti, chapter 24)
"This is the duty of a sannyasi. If he is actually advanced and so ordered by his spiritual master, he should preach Krsna with logic and understanding, and if he is not so advanced he should not accept the renounced order of life."
(Bhagavad-gita As it Is, 16.1-3, purport)
Prabhupada: "If two persons are in argument the man, the one party, he becomes angry, that means he is defeated. Why one should become angry? It is the argument, logic. They should continue. [...] If you do not agree to logic, then no argument can make progress."
Uttamasloka: "Srila Prabhupada, if one does not agree to logic, does that mean that they are under the influence of tamo-guna?"
Prabhupada: "That means he is animal. [...] Logic is meant for learned man, and uneducated man, they want to force, "Yes, you must do it." With point of revolver, "You must do it." And educated man, they argue on logic. That is the difference."
